Lorna Van Straaten

I still have the faded black and white pictures taken with my first box camera in grade 5.  The magic of seeing a moment of that day’s field trip captured forever was started a life-long passion.

Raised in Vancouver, with a degree in Communications, I have worked free-lance on and off for about 15 years. My quest is to find the quintessential image that tells a story.  I look for unique energy in a person or place. Travel has offered a quiet moment in a bustling city, the unique shape of a tree, or a pattern in an intricate piece of architecture. I shoot with an intent to find the ‘quiet side of life’, my ‘Zen’ moment.  In this collection, the black and white image is honest and speaks with integrity about the moment and the subject.

My work has been featured in West Coast Families Magazine (cover) and in websites; I offer stock photography for sale, do portraits by commission and custom design photographic books that celebrate memorable vacations and life milestones.
