It’s the end of August and at this time of the year one actually feels like the year is just getting started. The season has definitely changed.

There is lots of activity approaching: the return to school for the children of Whistler, fall and winter programming, the launch of the 2010-2011 Performance Series and our big fundraiser Our Whistler: Celebrating Our History taking place on November 6th.

This is the first year of my term as Chair of the Whistler Arts Council.

Looking back to the beginning of 2010, the Arts Council was extremely busy with Whistler Live! and the 2010 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games. We survived it all and now it’s back to the ongoing business of providing the best artistic and cultural activities for our citizens as well as for the thousands of visitors we look forward to hosting in Whistler over the next 6 months.

I have stated that my goal during my term is to increase awareness of the Arts Council through increased memberships and attracting our weekenders to the Patron Program. These are both achievable goals. For those of you who are members and patrons - please spread the word. Ask your friends, colleagues and neighbours to join us. We have so many events over the course of a year there is something for everyone!

I look forward to meeting many of you.
