Course Outline This course is intended for the beginner and for those who would like a refresher in acrylic painting. Find out how you can get the most out of your acrylic paints. Learn how to move from thumbnail sketches into finished paintings. Colour and brushwork will be explored. Use of guided, hands on exercises and step-by-step processes will be used to support your learning. Landscape will be the subject matter and the intention in this workshop is to discover the joy of painting in a supportive encouraging environment.

Materials List Paints: preferably 150 ml tubes, artist’s quality Hansa yellow - middle Pthalo-cerulean blue Cobalt blue dp – hue Quinacridone red -cool red Azo red middle -warm red Ivory black Titanium white - always need more than all other colors Acrylic medium - matte or gloss
Brushes: choose brushes that are shaped well 1 large round 1 flat 1 round for detail 1 large flat one for filling in large areas There are natural bristle brushes and synthetic brushes. They both should be explored. Long handle brushes are used for easel painting, but you can also interchange with short handle brushes.
Palette: Either throw away paper palettes or any white non porous surface. Do not use watercolor or plexiglass palettes. Palette knife 2B pencil Eraser Sharpener or x-knife Sketchbook Roll of masking tape 1” Rags
Paper: 1 sheet of 150 lb., print paper – 22 x 30 or equivalent – for experimental exercises 1 big canvas – 16 x 20 or larger – for painting from a photograph 1 small canvas 8 x 12 or equivalent – for plein air painting)
Optional materials: Plastic viewfinder - 13.00 Retarder Gel medium to thicken your paint Other colors Sponges Other types of rigid surfaces to paint on as long as they are primed with gesso Digital camera Plastic fishing tackle box to carry your supplies
