Course Outline
This workshop will explore essential watercolour techniques and perception exercises, which will enable participants the ability to paint directly from nature and learn to interpret and transcend their photo reference.  Students will explore how to use watercolors’ flowing spontaneity and ethereal softness while also making crisp, highly defined forms. The course subject on Day 1 and 2 will be misty mountain ranges reflecting in water taught with a step by step full sheet demonstration. On Day 3, the subject will be of rainforests and moving water. This workshop is intended for intermediate to advanced students. Photo references will be supplied; however, participants are welcome to bring their own, inspirations.

Bio
Canadian artist David McEown is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design, and a elected a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, which in 2005 awarded him the society’s prestigious A.J. Casson Medal. Since then he has earned a reputation as one of Canada's pre-eminent watercolorists and with paintings represented in collections internationally and articles published in numerous magazines. David is also a sought after teacher and has conducted workshops and presentations for numerous Art Societies across Canada, including teaching at the Royal Ontario Museum since 2002. Also he has been artist in residence aboard numerous expedition cruise ships to such destinations as the North Pole and Antarctica sharing his enthusiasm and unique way of seeing with international participants.
